Our Viking River Cruise began in Amsterdam but the boat had a broken prop so we had a day to wander around the canals and later to take a bus to Cologne where we finally boarded for the Rhine and Danube Rivers cruise. I took photos of the scenery around Amsterdam and I was attracted to the parked bicycles everywhere. I love the boats in the canals too...and the Dutch architecture...but I will attend to those later.
This painting seemed a little complicated when I thought I was going to have to draw all the details of a couple dozen bikes, but I remembered something Tony Couch said a workshop I attended, "One doesn't have to paint a tree but just the symbol for a tree." So I faked the details past the first few bikes and I think I got the idea of the scene.
