This is a scene from the Buda side of Budapest. Notice the phone booth, mailbox and church cupola reflected in the windows. I painted this from an earlier visit to the city but I was reminded of this watercolor when I walked around there this summer while on the Viking River Cruise. We changed boats in this city to continue on down the Danube to Bucharest. A funny thing happened on that leg of the trip: our big catamaran Primadonna went aground near the north bank of the Danube. Apparently the water level was down and another boat, a barge I think, was stopped in the middle of the river and our captain thought he could go around it. Uh oh. After hours of tugging by a tugboat, we were offloaded onto a barge and transported to a ramp...and then by bus to Bucharest. We arrived at night and didn't get a tour of Bucharest. What a disappointment!
